Comments: These authors are facing an old discovery about a possible pseudospiral cleavage in some phoronid species. This point has been discussed about 50 years ago. All previous authors agree now with a radial cleavage. Several papers have been published on. Now to support the new lophotrochozoan/spiralian affinity it appears more confident to demonstrate that the phoronid cleavage is spiral and NOT radial. From own observations and largely published, the cleavage in Phoronis psammophila is clearly radial, that confirm the opinion of previous authors - see references herein.
The debate between morphology and genetic is following! By the way, Phoronopsis viridis (Phoronopsis cannot be abbreviated in Ph. according to ICZN rules) is a synonym of Phoronopsis harmeri.
