Diagnosis

Extended specimens about 70-80 mm (fixed specimens without ampulla, diameter about 0.8-1 mm.
Colour yellowish.
Lophophore horseshoe-shaped with ends turned medially. Up to 150 tentacles, length 1-2.5 mm .
Nephridia with a single funnel, with a short descending branch and a long ascending one; nephridiopore on anal papilla below anus on collar fold within the invagination.
A single giant nerve fibre, on the left side at the level of the attachment of the left lateral mesentery to the body wall, 10-15 μm in diameter.
Longitudinal muscle bundles of feathery type; the general formula is:

Sexual reproduction: dioecious; no nidamental glands, large membranous lophophoral organs.

Phoronopsis deprofundis is embedded vertically in silty sediments, depth rage is 786 - 1551 m.

Etymology: deprofundis means living in the deep sea, i.e., “from profundal zone”.
