  • Permian: The last of the six geologic periods comprised in the Paleozoic era. Also the system of strata deposited during that period. Friedrich von ALBERTI proposed the Triassic System in 1834 for the three-fold subdivision of salt-bearing rocks in northern Germany.

  • Triassic: The earliest of the three geologic periods comprised in the Mesozoic era. Roderick IMPEY MURCHISON named the Permian System from the province of Perm on the western flank of the Ural Mountains in Russia.
