These pictures were taken in 1955-56 when we were in Rome for almost a year. Since then more of the Forum has been excavated. The Arch of Constantine incorporates plaques and reliefs from older structures. To the right is the outer wall of the Colosseum. The interior is shown in the next photo. The Castel Sant' Angelo was Hadrian's tomb. It now houses the National Museum. The name comes from the bronze statue of St Michael at the summit of the tomb. The nymph and satyrs are in the Pincio gardens near the Villa Borghese. Click on the picture to see it larger.
