Genus Terebratella d'Orbigny, 1847, p. 269

[= Waltonia Davidson, 1850, p. 474 (type: W. valenciennesii Davidson, 1850); = Magasella Dall, 1870, p. 134 (type: Terebratella evansii Davidson, 1852, p. 77)]

[Type species = Terebratula chilensis Broderip, 1833, p. 141 - (= Anomia dorsata Gmelin, 1790 (p. 3, 348); = Terebratula flexuosa King, 1835, p. 337; = Terebratula patagonica Gould, 1850, p. 347]

Medium to large, transversely ovate, unisulcate, costate to strongly multicostate; beak erect to suberect, attrite, foramen medium to large, submesothyrid to mesothyrid, deltidial plates commonly conjunct. Cardinalia weakly to moderately thickened, hinge plates excavate, moderately to steeply inclined, meeting on low median septum to form septalium; adult loop trabecular.
Lophophore plectolophous.

    Species of medium size, round or pentagonal in outline, thin. Frontal commissure slightly sulciplicate. Valves without ornamentation, almost translucent. Beak suberect. Loop terebratelliform. Thin lateral connecting bands may be present between the descending branches and the septum.
