Definition of Zone : « Espace vertical du domaine benthique marin où les conditions écologiques, fonction de sa situation par rapport au niveau de la mer, sont sensiblement constantes ou varient régulièrement entre les deux niveaux critiques marquant les limites de l'Etage. » (Pérès & Picard, 1964)
International practice: Traditionally French abbreviations are used for the biocoenoses,
avoiding any confusion and applying a common standard in the Mediterranean.
